On Friday, participants
of the commemorative
tour "Final Journey of T.H.Shevchenko"
visited the city of Orel,
and attended the requiem mass
on the premises
of the Church
of Exaltation of the Cross,
where the funeral service for the Great
Kobzar was held in 1861.
The local residents had the opportunity to listen to the poems of T.Shevchenko and see his portrait by Kyiv artist N.L.Lukianionok. The portrait was presented in Tavria palace in Saint Petersburg during the opening of CIS IPA session.
Today, the participants of the commemorative tour will head from Orel to the border town of Hlukhiv to meet Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The delegation will attend the requiem mass in Hlukhiv. The honourable guests will also visit Hlukhiv National Reserve to meet the city officials.
As reported, the tour "Final Journey of T.H.Shevchenko" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of reburial of the Great Kobzar is held in Ukraine and the Russian Federation on May 14-23. The events are organized under the patronage of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of CIS member states.
The delegation of parliament members of Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan will follow the itinerary of the funeral procession with the body of the Great Kobzar in the year 1861.
